Backing Up Participant Data

Though not required, it is considered a best practice to create a backup before you begin importing a large amount of data into DB Precision. In the event that you make a mistake during the update process, you can bring the database for that sponsor back to its original state.

It is also considered to be a best practice to delete backups older than one year. In fact, if you have any backups that are older, each user that opens the sponsor will receive a warning about this until the older backups are deleted. Backups take up a large amount of space on the database and eventually can impact the performance of future backups.

To complete a backup, open the sponsor, and then press Backup on the Data tab of the main ribbon. You will be asked to provide a description ("Prior to 2017 Update" for example) and then, after pressing OK, you will be notified of the backup being created.

If you ever need to restore the sponsor's data, press Restore on the Data tab, and then choose the restoration point from the list of prior backups.

Please note that any data changes made after the time of the backup being restored will be lost after restoration. For plans that have participants in other sponsors, changes made to shared information for these participants will be lost as well. If your plan has participants in other sponsors, check the transaction log to make sure you are not undoing a change for another sponsor.
